In the year 2199, seventeen-year-old Jessica Mathers is planning to join her parents, whom she hasn't seen for six years, aboard the "Theseus," a research facility studying Carver 1061c, a desolate planet in the midst of a post-apocalyptic event. Getting there requires her to teleport, which will erase her identity on Earth and reconstruct it on the "Theseus." When she wakes on an empty lander on the surface of Carver 1061c however, she realizes something went very wrong. Alternating before and after chapters piece together what happened and the harrowing details of the advanced science that caused it.
